Monday night, Aron invited me to his siyum. He has finished 4 years of study at Yeshivat Har Etzion and is to begin his army service Tuesday. The years of study with all of what he has accomplished in torah study, the rabbis he has studied with, including the last 2 years with Rav Lichtenstein who has just retired from giving the senior talmud class, has had a major influence on him. He had decided to complete Mesechet Bava Kama to honor of the event.
I brought Adele and two of his brothers to hear him. 30 of his friends crowded into classroom 1 with their dinners from the cafeteria to listen as he lectured on the principles of nezikin. He chanted the hadran and I said the special kaddish that one says when one completes a tractate of talmud.
The Kaddish continues: May His Great Name be grow exalted and sanctified in the world that will be renewed...and rebuild the city of Jerusalem and complete his Temple within it...and return the service of Heaven to its place and may the Holy One, Blessed is he, reign in His sovereignty and splendor...swiftly and soon.
He called me Tuesday morning that he was on a bus on the way to the Army and tonight to let me know that all was okay.
All the strength to you, my son!
